Introduction

The accumulation of knowledge was the beginnings of librarianship. In pre-technology days the library was the epitome of this accumulation. As libraries evolved so did the field of librarianship. It is the development of technology and the professionalism of the field that expanded it into the field of information science. Accumulation of knowledge is not enough. The creation, utilization, and dissemination of this knowledge are what make it the field of information science.
Unlike the past where librarians waited for the public to come to them, we face a future of demonstrating our value to our patrons. The expansion of information sources and the ease of access lead people to believe they no longer need a facilitator. However, the very wealth of information available, both valuable and outright wrong, make the guidance of our profession invaluable. It is to this end that this blog is dedicated.
